Sunday, December 15, 2024 our friend, relative and co- worker of the Bread of Life Ministry, Inc went to be with Jesus.
My first memories of my brother Mark Mason were in Spurgeon, Indiana. Dad was preaching at the local Baptist Church and we met his family. He had a large
family and his mother, Edith, was like my second mom. She could cook, can, grow a garden, actually there wasn't much she could do. We went to all their family fish fry's and cook outs.
Mark and my brother were the same age, and a lot of us kids in that town ran around together. The Heacock kids, the Richie Boys, the Potters, the Mortons,
and so many others. My mom and dad adopted Mark like so many others, and the things we got into! Mom tied sheets together and attached them to our beds so if the parsonage caught on fire we could
jump out the top windows. Mark and Tim decided one day to have a fire drill and broke Tim's bed! Shirley was not happy.
Mom used to take us all to the Evansville Museum and the Shrine Circus. One trip to the museum, mom saw a statue of a Naked man and said, "hum.....that
call it art".....mark quickly replied, "mom.....how do your know what his name is!" He always had a quick sense of humor.
We had a great youth group and wonderful teachers that taught us the bible. Debbie and Shiela Julian and Nevelan Teague were just a few. We had Rock a
Thon's to raise money to attend Camp Windermere in the Ozarks and that is where
Lorrie Carlisle Higgs flew in her first helicopter as a small child. She still hates
flying!
Mark made us laugh and was always the hit of any get-together! Mark was always in love with a girl on the bus named Judy. She had long hair and lived in
the area. It was my honor, almost 4 years ago December, to marry them. Judy was always part of the Spurgeon community as well.
I could tell you so many stories, but his legacy speaks for itself. I will miss you my brother, but I rejoice in the fact I will see you again. I hope you
keep your mom and dad and my mom and dad straight till I get there.
With Love,
Sherry Carlisle Smith and the Bread of Life Ministry, Inc family and board members.
